After a few of my friends asked me for some help creating HTML resumes, I started pointing them to my old HTML resume. Then it dawned on me — this would be a great little thing to open-source, and make into a standalone template.
So I dove into the old code, cleaned things up a bit and put it all together for download. It’s nothing special — just a simple web page that you can edit to swap in your own information. The HTML and CSS are flexible enough that you can easily change colors, add a background, a photo, or use the bottom section to showcase a few portfolio pieces. It uses the YUI Grids framework, so you might want to check out the support info on Yahoo’s site if you find those elements confusing.

Nice work Matt. Not sure if it’s a good thing or a bad thing that Tiff knows lots of people who can use it though.
Anyway, I’ve seen a few of these over the years and this one is pretty great.

Hi Matt, this looks great.
We’ve actually been working on a similar service for the past couple of months called Innovative Resume http://innovativeresume.com/ which also lets you pick a design for your resume. The service is still kind of soft-launched-but-not-really, but you can check out the resume builder and the way things work if you’d like by registering for a free account.

Oh sweet, that’s a great resource, and a beautiful design too.
PS. Can you get me in touch with this Jonathan Doe person, I know some people who would love to hire someone with the experience he has

@Dragan: Wow! That’s an awesome looking service, and much slicker than some similar apps I saw a few years ago. Great job.
I’ll likely update sampleresumetemplate.net site next week with links to other solutions like this. Thanks!

Hey Matt,
I just wanted to say thanks for posting the sample resume template.
I see you used the Yahoo! CSS stuff as a basis but managed to simplify it a lot. It works really well - nicely done!
I’ve used it as the basis for mine at http://www.nicholasfurness.com and extended it a few ways. If you like what I’ve added (some of the things are subtleties used when printing, like setting the background to white and dropping the Download buttons, but I really like the skills section that goes with each job/project), feel free to make use of the mods. And what do you know, I learnt a wee bit about CSS while I was at it!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!

@Nick Furness: Awesome work on your resume! Really great to see one of these in the wild — I love your additions (the ‘tag’-like skill boxes near the job are great).
Whenever I release a new version, I may roll some of these changes into it. Thanks!
